The Red Cross offers shelter to those affected by the Viva Air crisis

The crisis that caused the suspension of the Viva Air operation still leaves many users affected. There are still people who have failed to travel to their destinations, so the the Red Cross colombiana announced that it will provide shelter to those affected by this situation.

The Cundinamarca and Bogota section of the Colombian Red Cross recently announced that it is making available to the concessionaire of El Dorado International Airport, Opain, the possibility of hosting people who need to stay due to the postponement of their trips.

It should be noted that nearly 18,000 travelers were affected daily by the cancellation of flights by the low-cost company. Although national law enforcement authorities have evacuated people, along with other airlines who have offered to do so, the impacts are still evident.

For this reason, the Red Cross provides shelter for those who are stranded at the airport and do not have the resources to stay somewhere or take other alternatives.

“For the Institution, it is of vital importance to articulate with other institutions in favor of those who need it most, due to the current situation which has many passengers who have come with scheduled trips to bout”, they expressed from the entity.

For her part, Erika Cardona Patiño, director of humanitarian affairs for the section, assured that this plan for the care of those affected by the Viva Air crisis is already being implemented. According to the manager, this work with Opain has so far enabled around thirty people to be accommodated.

From the Red Cross, they pointed out that This support is focused primarily on the most vulnerable population. That is to say, the priority people are the elderly, pregnant women and passengers who have a long wait in the postponement of the flight.

“Once protected by the Institution, these people will be able to have a space to rest, bathe and take the necessary food, before the date of the flight”, reads a press release published by the entity.

Considering the crisis of Viva Air and the number of users affected by the sudden suspension of the airline’s operation, the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) has issued some recommendations to citizens.

What is the SCI is to provide support and assistance to those who have been harmed by the cessation of the company’s activities.

“The Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, in its capacity as judge in matters of consumer protection through its Delegation for Jurisdictional Affairs, issues guidelines to guide citizens affected by the suspension of air operations of Viva Fast Colombia SAS – Viva Airlines Perú SAC“, expressed the entity through a press release.

According to the SIC, what users affected by the Viva Air crisis should do is sue the airline for violating consumer rights.

With the recommendations issued by the Superintendency, there are only two simple steps that those affected by this situation should follow:

– Submit the claim virtually via the application provided by the SIC for this purpose: https://servicioslinea.sic.gov.co/servilinea/ServiLinea/DemandasProteccion/

– Subsequently, the complaint must be filed. For this step, there are two ways to complete the process, the first is by email to the Superintendency (contactenos@sic.gov.co) or in person at the SIC offices in Bogotá.

It should be noted that, for the cases of National flightsthe request must be directed against Viva Fast Colombia SAS In the case of international tickets, the lawsuit is against Viva Airlines Perú SAC.

Likewise, the entity pointed out that after filing the complaint, those affected can request the imposition of precautionary measures against the airline.
