On Monday afternoon, the residents of Thames Street (a few meters from Juan B. Justo Avenue) did not leave their astonishment. After an operation, troops from the City Police found seven dead cats in a refrigerator in an apartment in the area. In addition, they rescued 17 cats that were in overcrowded conditions, without food or drink and with a lack of hygiene.
The raid was carried out by personnel from the Criminal Investigations and Special Operations Division of the City Police in conjunction with the Judicial Investigation Corps. The owner of the house, a woman of Argentine nationality, approximately 50 years old, was not at home.
After an investigation, in the framework of a case carried out by the Special Fiscal Unit in Environmental Material in charge of the doctor Carlos Rolero Santurián, the effective porteños found in the interior of the house about 17 cats (14 adults and 3 young), with an evident deteriorated state of health and con signs of infectious diseases. At the same time, Inside a freezer, they found five corpses of cats and two more inside the refrigerator.

The Criminal and Misdemeanor Prosecutor’s Office No. 40 ordered the kidnapping of the corpses to be taken to the Pasteur Institute in order to perform the corresponding autopsies, as well as the rescue of the animals that were alive who were referred to two protection foundations: Saving Lives Y Rescued Colitas.

According to the regulations, “not feeding in sufficient quantity and quality to domestic or captive animals” is considered an “act of abuse”. The law also refers to “acts of cruelty”, among them, “practicing vivisection for purposes that are not scientifically demonstrable and in places or by persons that are not duly authorized to do so; abandoning the animals used in experimentation to their own means; cause the death of pregnant animals when such a state is patent in the animal and except in the case of legally established industries that are based on the exploitation of the unborn; and intentionally hurting and running over animals, causing them unnecessary torture or suffering, or killing them for the mere spirit of evil ”.
At the beginning of last year, a man who kicked his dog to death for relieving herself indoors was sentenced to six months in jail. The Investigating Court No. 1 intervened in the case and sanctioned a subject who resided in the municipality of Ingenia with half a year in prison. In addition, he was prohibited from keeping animals as pets for a period of 32 months, as a result of the animal abuse he exercised on his poodle breed dog on the last day of the year 2019.
