Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law completely banning the propaganda of “non-traditional” sex , gender reassignment and pedophilia, according to a corresponding entry made in the Russian State Duma (Russia’s representative assemblies).
Modifications have been made to the information law, information technology and information protection and other documents.
Two weeks ago lawmakers in the Russian parliament approved a bill expanding restrictions on “LGBT propaganda” that already exist among minors.
Under the new law, such propaganda is now completely prohibited on social media, in the media, in movies, and in advertisements.
A separate provision prohibits the dissemination of such information to minors, whereas until now the prohibition applied only to materials about LGBT.
There are plans to establish a mechanism to deny access to information related to the LBGT community on payment sites for minors. Special codes or other actions will be required to enter such websites.
The country’s media watchdog will be authorized to include websites with propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations, pedophilia and gender reassignment in the register of prohibited resources subject to blocking. You will also be authorized to determine the Internet monitoring procedure to detect such sites.
The law also prohibits the sale of goods, including imported goods, that contain information whose distribution implies administrative or criminal liability.
At the same time, another law signed by President Putin modifies the Code of Administrative Offenses to introduce administrative liability for the propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations between people of any age , not just children.
According to Alexander Bashkin, a member of the committee for constitutional legislation of the Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament), previously such propaganda was prohibited only among minors, while now the ban applies to people of any age.
The law enters into force on the day of its publication.
