There Argentinian Basketball Confederation (CAB) ratified the trust in Pablo Prigioni and ensured the continuity of the national team coach who has just suffered elimination for the 2023 World Cup in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines after the tough defeat in Mar del Plata against the Dominican Republic on February 26.
The selected albiceleste, current American champion and vice-world champion, will miss the ecumenical event for the first time in 41 yearswhich means a major failure for a country that is committed to perpetuating the legacy of golden generation. The next objective will be the Pre-Qualifying Tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games which will be played from August 12 to 20 with a venue to be confirmed.
“It’s a blow not to be in the World Cup, now we have to focus on the possibility that we have to reorganize as a team.. Our short-term objective is clear: to go further in the quest for qualification for the Olympic Games. I have great confidence in the team and, as always, we have the full support of the Confederation to achieve this”, were the first words of jails after the fall with the Dominican.
The coach and former base of the national team also officiates as an assistant for the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA and will continue the process in Argentina in agreement with the leaders of the CAB. “We have players with a lot of room for improvement. They are young people with great potential, who can make more commitments in the team accompanied by references,” said the 45-year-old from Cordoba in statements made to the official press of the Confederation.
On the other hand, the questioned president of the CAB, Fabien Borrobroke the silence after the elimination and gave his full support to the team and the technical staff: “I would like to thank the permanent commitment of our players, traveling from all over the world to always say that they are present in the national team.”
“Not qualifying for the World Cup was a hard, painful and unexpected blow.. We have to focus on sporting revenge and all of us with Pablo (Prigioni) and our players have a new goal: to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It won’t be easy, the road is long. Pablo’s commitment and professionalism make him the best choice for this huge challenge,” concluded the Argentinian basketball leader.
