This Saturday, the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, called for calm and dialogue to the groups of protesters in the protests carried out in various cities of the country, which have led to seven arrests and eight injuries, so far.
Via Twitter, Boluarte commented that respect, dialogue and tolerance are essential in a democracy.
Likewise, she said that the National Police has informed her that on Friday there were seven detainees, four civilians and four police officers injured in the framework of the protests, which is why she remarked that “we guarantee the unrestricted compliance with human rights.”
Ella Boluarte made “a call for calm and serenity” and emphasized that “dialogue and understanding is imperative.”
Hundreds of people flocked to the central Plaza San Martín on Friday night to protest against the dismissal of Castillo and demand the advancement of general elections.
Other protesters have also spoken out outside the prison located in the Police Special Operations Directorate in the Lima district of Ate, where former President Castillo has been held since Wednesday.
The National Police reported that its troops maintain “order and security” in said police headquarters.
