Pope Francis received Elon Musk , a businessman and considered the richest person in the world, in a private 40-minute meeting at his residence in Casa Santa Marta, Vatican sources told Télam.

The pontiff and the head of the Tesla electric car and SpaceX rocket companies, among others, reviewed general issues on Friday afternoon and exchanged views on the future of humanity and technology.

In the meeting, Francisco and Musk shared points of view on mutual concerns, such as the risk of the so-called “demographic winter” from the low birth rate in many countries and the need for regulations in the field of Artificial Intelligence, the sources added.

Musk was accompanied by four of his children, as seen in a photo that the also creator of the Neuralink firm uploaded to his social networks.

“Honored to have met the pontiff ,” the South African-born businessman wrote in his tweet to comment on the image in which he appears with Francis and four of his children.
