After the invasion of Ukraine, several pharmaceutical companies decided to cut off supplies of non-essential (non-life-saving) medicines to Russia. Among the drugs in question there is also Botox, a muscle relaxing solution that is also used in the medical field as an anti-wrinkle treatment.

For some time, rumors have been circulating, supported by plastic surgeons , that Vladimir Putin makes extensive use of cosmetic surgery and, in particular, of Botox. AbbVie, a US company that owns the Botox patent, said it has stopped distributing all of its beauty products in the country.

However, the sanctions inflicted on Russia did not affect life-saving medicines, as they were considered necessary for humanitarian reasons .

According to Reuters reports , the pharmaceutical company Ely Lilly has confirmed the sending of medicines intended for the treatment of serious diseases such as cancer and diabetes, but is suspending investments and promotions on Russian territory. Swiss drug company Novartis has also announced that it will block marketing activities in Russia, along with scientific events organized by the company. Further investments are excluded. Pfizer, Bayer and Abbott Laboratories also join the list of pharmaceutical companies that have downsized their business with the Kremlin.
