The attorney general of Panama, Eduardo Ulloa, presented his “irrevocable” resignation to the position before President Laurentino Cortizo, according to the judicial official himself in statements shared by social networks of the Public Ministry.

Ulloa’s resignation, which he said will be effective from next March 1, occurs at a time when the eyes of public opinion are on investigations of alleged mistreatment and abuse in children’s shelters, some of which receive subsidies from public funds. .

The head of the Public Ministry explained in his message that accepting the position on January 2, 2020 entailed the sacrifice of his family, who had to accept that his life, integrity and capacity was debated daily in the media in an open and submissive manner. to the interest of everyone who decides to comment on it_.

Ulloa assured that family life was disrupted, family time was reduced, and emotional peace and tranquility was altered.

“Having made this sacrifice, we had to deal with a society in permanent confrontation, where interested criticism and media judgment leave behind the serene and objective analysis of the work being done, which makes public service an ungrateful and misunderstood task,” he said. .

He added that in addition to this, he had to work with a system incapable of solving situations as critical as the well-being of our childhood.

So far, President Cortizo has not commented on Ulloa’s departure nor has he reported who will occupy the position.
