Palma sells luxury to the US market

A delegation from Palma is in New York to promote the city and Mallorca to the united states tourist market. What the councilor for tourism in Palma, Elena Navarro, describes as “an unprecedented initiative” adds to the success of the launch of the United Airlines Newark-New York route.

On Wednesday night there will be a presentation at a venue on Fifth Avenue; 65 tour operators and 17 media outlets have confirmed their attendance. Prior to this central event, meetings have been held with tour operators specializing in premium tourism -the high end luxury market. Signature Travel Network and Virtuoso have been two of these tour operators.

These are networks of travel agencies with a clientele with high purchasing power who are looking for different and exclusive experiences, a market segment that Palma City Council is particularly interested in capturing due to its positive economic impact. There is a strong interest in palm and mallorca because, as the manager of Fundación Palma 365, Pedro Homar, says, “we are the great unknowns”. “But United Airlines service and its commercial success has positioned us all over the East Coast of the United States.”

Homar adds that these tour operators can see that there is a latent demand for a premium market to travel to Palma and Mallorca.
