In a few days, the most important awards night in cinema will take place. The precious Oscars will take place on March 12 at the classic Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony will this time have a central conductor and Jimmy Kimmel has been chosen again for this position, who has already fulfilled this role in 2017 and 2018. With him, several stars will be responsible for delivering the statuettes and presenting prizes , like Glenn Close, Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ariana DeBose, Emily Blunt, Jennifer Connelly, Troy Kotsur, Riz Ahmed, Michael B. Jordan, Jonathan Majors, Melissa McCarthy, Janelle Monáe, Deepika Padukone, Questlove, Zoe Saldaña and Donnie Yen among others. It was also announced that vocalist Lenny Kravitz will sing a heartfelt song during the In Memoriam moment where those in the industry who have died are remembered.
This year, the actresses who are among the possible candidates have a name that has trampled all the awards to date. Here is Cate Blanchett for her performance in Warehouse. Likewise, the rest of the performers who are part of this select group said they were very flattered to have been considered by the Academy. These are the 5 actresses who aspire to win the golden statuette this Sunday.
Ana de Armas (Blonde)
The Cuban-born actress was chosen to play Hollywood diva, Marilyn Monroe and that’s how she starred in the Netflix movie Blond (Blond its translation into Spanish). Despite being criticized for her noticeable Spanish accent, the Academy turned a deaf ear and included her in the Best Actress category. Blond, Directed by Andrew Dominik, it retraces Marilyn’s life from her childhood, through fame, love, her father’s absence, her relationship with political power and her addiction to painkillers which led to her death. Ana de Armas managed to bring the woman behind the myth to life and interpreted her interpretation correctly
Michelle Yeoh (Everything everywhere at the same time)
Play Evelyn in one of the loudest sounding movies to win the Best Picture statuette. It is Everything in every room at once, which tells the story of a middle-aged woman overwhelmed by what could not be in her life and her reality: a strained relationship with her teenage daughter, a husband who wants a divorce, a business overwhelmed with debt and a father who only urges her with his mere presence. But his ability to be able to travel in different dimensions and moments of a life he did not have, will be the key for him to find his way. A memorable performance from Yeoh who is a serious contender. You can see the film in theaters and on the Prime Video platform.
Andrea Riseborough (to Leslie)
Her entry into this category was the most controversial of all as she had not been considered for other awards. However, a campaign by her own fellow actresses (including Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet) on social media praising Andrea Risenborough’s work somehow led the academy to consider her, and that’s how she ended up on this list. Her interpretation, on the other hand, is incredible: an alcoholic mother who shows a part of the United States far from the glamor of Hollywood. The film is inspired by a real case and tells the story of a West Texas woman who wins the lottery and immediately wastes it. Years later, she is shown alone, discouraged and with nowhere to go. Still no platform to see it.
Michelle Williams (Los Fabelman)
The actress is once again nominated for Best Actress, but this time she brings Steven Spielberg’s mother to life on screen, who told part of her childhood and youth in this film titled The Fabelman. While it has multiple recreations and doesn’t end up being a true story of his life, this title ends up being a tribute to his own parents. Williams once again demonstrates his ability as an actor to take on all the roles presented to him and achieves a fine performance here. You can see this film in theaters.
Cate Blanchett (deposit)
The Australian actress, winner of two Oscars, is aiming for her third statuette. He has almost every chance of winning the Oscar at home since he has won all the previous awards. The film warehouse, Directed by Todd Field, it once again has her as its protagonist and, as usual, she has once again dazzled the world with her portrayal. Blanchett plays Lydia Tár, director of a large German orchestra, which did not actually exist. The film opens by showing Tár at the peak of his career as he prepares for a book launch. But he is also at a very important moment in his life: he will conduct Mahler’s Fifth Symphony live. You can see Warehouse in theatres.
