This Monday, the Knoxville, Tennessee, Police Department reported a high school shooting. The events occurred at the Austin-East Magnet school, city authorities detailed.
Through a statement, the Police Department announced that, around 3:15 pm, they received a report from a male subject, probably armed at school.

Monday afternoon, Knox County Superintendent Bob Thomas reported on his Twitter account that a shooting had occurred at Austin-East Magnet High School. He added that the building was insured and the students had already been handed over to their families.

According to information from the authorities, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a report about a man suspected of being armed at the Austin-East Magnet School. Upon reaching the scene, the man immediately opened fire on them.
During the shooting, a policeman was injured. The agent was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with injuries that are not expected to endanger his life.
Authorities also reported that a man was pronounced dead at the scene. What’s more, a man was detained for questioning. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
The event comes in the middle of the debate on weapons in the United States, in which President Joe Biden has announced measures for the control of arms in the country.
Last Thursday, the day Biden announced the new measures, Bill Lee, Governor of Tennessee, where this latest shooting took place, signed a law that allows citizens over the age of 21 to carry, exposed or concealed, pistols or revolvers no need for training or criminal history checking. This new legislation goes into effect on July 1.
