A person who was injured in a fire registered this Saturday at the Coronado hotel in Barcelona, ​​has died this Sunday at the Clínic hospital in Barcelona, ​​where he remained admitted, the Mossos d’Esquadra have informed GLM. This is a 44-year-old man residing in Zaragoza who had moved to Barcelona for business reasons.

The fire has left at least two other people seriously injured. It originated around 12:55 p.m. in a room on the third floor of the hotel for reasons that are now being investigated by the police.

The final balance of the Emergency Medical System (SEM), a service that treated the hotel’s wounded with 14 units, is  nine people affected  by the event, one in critical condition, two serious, two less serious and four minor who received the high on the spot.

The speed of the spread of the flames  led two of the customers to jump out of the window from the third floor to escape the fire .

Closure due to lack of security measures

The Barcelona City Council has ordered this Sunday, due to the lack of security measures detected in the inspection of the building, the closure of the hotel.

Municipal sources have informed GLM that firefighters have inspected the building that houses the hotel and in their report they  order the closure of the establishment due to the lack of security measures  detected in the building, located on Nou de la Rambla street, especially “in case of fire”.

The firefighters, in their inspection, have  ruled out that the fire caused structural problems in the hotel .

Following the order processed by the Fire Department, the city council has activated a team from the Barcelona Emergency and Social Emergency Center (CUESB) to look for accommodation for the 16 guests who were still in the establishment after the fire.
