Paris, 24 Feb. The OECD will open a coordination office with Ukraine on March 1 in kyiv, the organisation’s secretary general, Mathias Cormann, announced on Friday.

The office, which follows one originally established in Paris, will coordinate the implementation of Ukraine’s new cooperation program with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Cormann said in a statement.

Staffed by four OECD staff when fully operational, this office will be located at the Slovak Embassy in Kyiv and will operate with the financial support of that country, as well as Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Romania.

Cormann stressed the need to reach a peace agreement “as soon as possible” under the terms of the resolution approved yesterday by the United Nations General Assembly, which would serve the interests of the Ukrainian and Russian peoples.

In the meantime, he argued that the OECD would continue to support Ukraine’s reconstruction and recovery efforts, and within the framework of the values ​​of a free, open, market-oriented democracy with high standards expected of a prospective member.”

The OECD boss also recalled the support measures the Paris-based organization has had with Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion a year ago to the day, such as the coordination of donor countries or support for the reconstruction of the country. EFE
