The Norwegian delegation in Eurovision 2021 has shown through Twitter its “sympathy” with the Spanish candidate, Blas Cantó, after the comments issued in a program on its public television that, as they acknowledge, “in some cases they could be understood as lacking in sensitivity.”
The controversy started this past Tuesday when an extract from the “Adresse Rotterdam” space, broadcast by the NRK, began to circulate on the networks, in which celebrities and “eurofans” analyzed the candidacies for Eurovision 2021.
“Spain decided on Blas Cantó and the public had to choose between two songs. This was the best”, the presenter Marte Stokstad initially comments in this video, to which one of her guests replied: “Maybe that one says it all. It’s terrible to be so negative with Blas, but it gets too boring. “
The guests then go on to criticize that the candidacy goes directly to the final, while others like Australia’s have been left out. At a certain point, they go on to assess the content of the Spanish video clip, in which the artist dances with the memory of his grandmother, to whom he dedicates the song and who died of covid-19 at the end of 2020.
“I think it is very oversized. Grandma comes back and he dances with her. A kind of sketch,” commented a collaborator. “There is something parodic there,” adds another of the speakers.
Towards the end, a Eurofan is given the floor. “There is also a story here. She lost her grandmother because of the covid. Perhaps she is the one who comes,” he says sarcastically amid the laughter of the congregation. “And his father died while he was writing the song. Something moves me, but it does not reach me”, ends his speech.
“In relation to the evaluation of Spain, some members made statements that could be considered insensitive. It is unfortunate and we want to convey our sympathy for Blas”, remarks the text of the Norwegian delegation before wishing “the best of luck” to Spain on Saturday.
The video provoked Cantó’s reaction through his Twitter profile: “I can’t rebuild my soul by seeing things like this. Nobody knows what I’m going through or the effort I make even to stay alive. I don’t blame them, they sure do. they are perfectly. All my love always. “
Among the comments are those who have seen the Spanish reaction to an acid humor exaggerated and those who have wanted to express their support, such as the artists Pastora Soler and Ruth Lorenzo, former representatives of Spain in Eurovision.
