Nike will stop operating in Russia, thus joining other international firms that have withdrawn from the country after the invasion of Ukraine.
Three months ago, Nike Inc. suspended operations at all company-owned and operated stores in Russia, but like other big companies, it has tried to avoid exposing employees to hardship during a permanent recall. .
Russian newspaper Vedomosti reported last month that Nike had ended its relationship with Inventive Retail Group, its main franchisee in the country.
“Our priority is to ensure that we fully support our employees as we responsibly scale down our operations over the coming months,” the sportswear maker said Thursday.
After suspending operations, McDonald’s and Starbucks have also pulled out of Russia entirely in recent weeks.
