Tegucigalpa, February 27. The Naval Force of the Nicaraguan Army has authorized from this Monday departures to the Caribbean Sea for small tourist and fishing vessels, a week after having suspended them due to the advance of a phenomenon of high pressure that caused waves 5.7 to 7.3 feet high (1.9 to 2.3 meters).

In a statement addressed to owners of industrial fishing boats, artisanal fishing boats, small boats, pleasure boats, tour operators, fishing cooperatives, water transport and the general public, the Nicaraguan Navy explained that from this Monday in the Caribbean they would emit zarpes.

The captaincies of Bluefields, El Bluff, Corn Island, Puerto Cabezas, as well as the control posts of ships and naval troop posts, will be responsible for issuing departures “to vessels destined for the high seas, fishing banks, at the coasts of communities and adjacent islands or cays,” he said.

The Nicaraguan Navy recommended “to respect the security measures established to go to sea, in order to protect human life and boats, this in order to avoid regrettable events”.

Water transport is important in Nicaragua, a country with 541 kilometers of coastline facing the Caribbean Sea.EFE
