Since 2018, Guanajuato is the state that concentrates the highest number of homicides in Mexico.

A shooting attack at a nightclub for adults left at least nine people dead and several injured in the municipality of Apaseo El Alto, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato.

The events were reported during the early hours of this Wednesday in a “table dance” nightclub called Lexuz, located on the highway that connects the municipality with the neighboring state of Querétaro, Mexico.

According to local media, armed individuals would have arrived at the scene and shot at the attendees. The preliminary balance was six people dead and some injured, however, during the morning of this Thursday another three deaths were confirmed.

Local authorities reported that the people who died are five men and four women, and two more women were injured, who are reported as stable.

Since 2018, Guanajuato is the Mexican state that concentrates the highest number of homicides in the country, according to the EFE news agency.

“This year, from January to September, 2,424 murders have been registered in the entity, a figure that represents 10% of those that have occurred at the national level,” the agency explains.

Just two days ago, on Tuesday, November 8, during his usual morning conference from the National Palace, the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, had once again touched on the issue of the wave of violence in Guanajuato.
