A good nine months ago, Russia attacked Ukraine – but according to Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, the aggression came from the West. NATO is no longer a defensive alliance, but an aggressor. But the majority of states would recognize this, he believes.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the West of waging war against Russia in Ukraine. “The war that the collective West has unleashed against Russia is affecting the state of strategic stability,” Lavrov said at a conference in Moscow.

The 73-year-old Russian chief diplomat explained that Ukraine and its citizens would be burned as “consumables”. Ukraine is being urged by the West to continue the war, Lavrov said. A good nine months ago, on February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. However, the Russian leadership only describes its own war of aggression as a “special military operation” and justifies it time and again by saying that it only forestalled an attack by Ukraine.

Lavrov once again criticized the support given to Ukraine by NATO countries. Russia’s security doctrine aims to prevent any confrontation between the nuclear powers, as it could lead to an uncontrolled escalation. “Western colleagues are now trying to deviate from this part of the formula,” he complained.

Ukraine has been transformed into a “bridgehead against Russian interests,” and NATO is no longer a defensive alliance, but an aggressor. “The expansionist globalism demonstrated by this aggressive bloc is unprecedented.” Lavrov said he was sure that the majority of states recognized the danger posed by this new line of the military alliance. He portrayed Russia as a kind of pioneer against western colonialism in order to win the states of Asia and Africa over to his side.
