BANGKOK – A court in Myanmar sentenced deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi to four more years in prison on Monday after finding her guilty of importing and illegally possessing walkie-talkies and violating coronavirus restrictions, according to a legal officer.

Syy Kyi was sentenced last month to four years in prison for two other crimes. The head of the government established by the Army later reduced that penalty by half. The cases are part of a dozen charges brought against the 76-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner since the army took power last February and toppled her elected government.

Suu Kyi’s supporters claim that the charges against her are an attempt to legitimize the actions of the military and prevent the former president from returning to politics.
