Moreover, he never stopped talking about the political crisis that Peru is going through. As we know, the young woman had to face a lot of criticism for having given her opinion.
Milena, already about to present your song at the Monstruo de la Quinta Vergara….
Dalia Durán confirmed that her daughters witnessed John Kelvin’s verbal abuse
Dalia Durán has broken her silence after it was revealed John Kelvin was taken to the police station for breaking restrictions.
It’s my first time in Chile and it’s wonderful. I am very grateful, the reaction of my community is something that fills me with joy, it is in these moments that the affection of people is felt. I received messages not only from Peruvians, but also from Chileans. There are a lot of people saying they’re going to see me on the show and that excites me a lot, it fills me with great expectations because it’s a challenge for me, I feel it’s a big responsibility.
With nerves on the surface?
The Viña stage is very impressive, the nerves are there, but I’m preparing a lot to give the best of myself.
When in your life did this opportunity arise?
Well, the last time we spoke we talked about the criticism he was getting at the time. It’s still there, more than any enemies. I’m at a stage where I understand that there will always be positive, negative and hateful comments, unfortunately that’s how our society is and it’s something I struggle with every day, but still in saving the positive. This recognition comes at a time when I know that my team and I have worked very hard, made a lot of sacrifices and it has been worth it, we have achieved a lot in 2022 and learning more about Viña has been the finishing touch. I know there is a long way to go, but I am very satisfied and very grateful.
Milena Warthon is already in Chile.
“Warmisitay” is a song you composed for your grandmother and ended up dedicating to Andean women. How do you feel about this song being heard at such an important festival?
In fact, yes, the theme started with the idea of dedicating a song to her, but little by little the message is gaining strength, which never loses in the sweetness I want you to know about my grandmother, my roots , music always It brought me closer to them. We are in a country that still has stereotypes about beauty, there is always the issue of discrimination. For me, the fact that women and girls sing this song, that they celebrate and love each other, is the greatest gift in the world.
Did you seek from the outset to empower women on this subject?
Listen, my process when I make a song is to say how I feel, to say how I connect through my family roots. I think I’m empowering myself by telling my own story of how it’s changed over the past few years. I think the message of this song is about empowerment because every day I try to empower myself, I feel beautiful and proud of who I am, and I reflect that on my followers. They end up empowering me, I have the impression that it’s something reciprocal and we move forward together. Making music in this country is quite complicated, especially as a woman, but we keep moving forward. It’s a very real song that I dedicate from the bottom of my heart.
At one point you said there was a lot of sacrifice in every achievement, what did you have to sacrifice?
Well, in 2022 I presented five songs, it’s been a year since I stopped anything. I did not have a vacation, I myself decided to rest for my health. I think it’s important to have a fresh mind to keep creating and motivating myself. I am a communicator and I have used my creativity a lot in digital campaigns, because I don’t just see the music, I see the content of the networks. I invested so that the videos would be top of the line and could be exhibited outside the country, this type of investment had never been made before. I don’t really stop at my team, but it’s because I love my job. A lot of people ask me, Milena, ‘who helps you create your videos and edit them, they’re super fun’. What they don’t know is that I spend hours going up to my room (laughs).
Milena Warthon is a brand that not only do you manage, but you’ve repeatedly said it’s a family business, was it complicated at any point?
I always said my family’s first business was music, now I have my brand, like a lot of families here in the country. We are a family that pushes the train and the love of people is what drives us more than anything. My parents know that I like to sing and have always supported me.
At the Viña del Mar festival, one of your opponents is Los Rabanes, I imagine you heard them…
Yes, I know them, for me this competition, whatever happens, it will be a big leap, it will be super big. After Viña, I’m sure I’m going to grow a lot personally, because I have big challenges and it’s one of the times when you continue to mature. I’m going to meet wonderful artists, that’s also what it’s about, more than a competition, it’s an opportunity to meet and continue to be inspired. What I promise is to give my best on stage, which is without a doubt legendary.
We know the important thing is to compete, but I guess you’ve already dreamed of having this Seagull in your hands…
Of course yes (laughs) For me, it would be to return with La Gaviota to Peru. I would be very happy, but I’m not lying when I say that I already feel like a winner, going on stage in Chile to sing my song ‘Warmisitay’, it’s my story that many will know. Just as I feel happy, I feel that it will be very important for many women who follow me, I am sure. I will give it my all.
Milena Warthon represents Peru at the Chilean festival.
You spoke in your networks about the political situation that Peru is going through, unfortunately the critics did not wait, what do you think?
I understand that this is a subject that must be treated with great caution. There were a lot of people attacking me for that, I tried to be as honest as possible, I think all Peruvians are having a really bad time. Never in my life will I be in favor of violence, no matter where it comes from, as I communicated in my post, right now we need to reflect on the fact that this problem is not just a recent problem This is a problem that has persisted for many, many years. Everything that happens is because in our society inequalities exist. Everything will calm down tomorrow, but he’ll be back until it’s resolved. You have to think, the change must be in you, you have to respect and have empathy.
Did you feel very attacked?
People send me hate messages, I don’t know if only at me. I believe that in these moments we have to be united and focused. I have colleagues who have also expressed their opinion on the situation in the country, I believe it is time to shake hands. From my stand, I sing and try to give a thoughtful message to the public.
They said you were taking advantage of Andean culture to expose yourself…
Yes I read those comments, look I can only say that I sing my story, I tell my point of view and it’s real. I read a lot of reviews because I’m Andean or I’m a Chola, but I feel like it’s doublespeak, because they’re also judging me because I studied at the University of Lima and my last name is Warthon (laughs). Things I don’t understand. I am now focusing on my roots, my family. It doesn’t matter where it comes from, it’s my story and I have the right to tell it.
Milena Warthon will represent us at the Viña del Mar 2023 festival.
And you will tell it at the Viña del Mar festival.
Yes, I will always be proud of my culture, I will represent my country happy. I am an Andean and Peruvian woman, it is for me the most representative, my family and my roots, I will never get tired of saying it. La gente que me quiere lo sabe, cuando yo canto, cuento la historia de mi abuela, de mi mamá, de mi prima, de mi amiga, de la amiga de mi amiga y de todos los que se sientan identificados, a quienes llevo en the heart.
