Guanajuato State Attorney General Carlos Zamarripa said Thursday there is evidence that some of the six women who disappeared on March 7 have been found dead.

Zamarripa pointed out that “unfortunately we found indications that some of them were deprived of life”.

The women, who were traveling in a group, disappeared on the outskirts of the town of Celaya, in this state in central Mexico. Authorities issued search warrants for the six women two days after their disappearance on March 9, and for more than a week said they hoped to find them alive.

Zamarripa noted that investigators are still analyzing the crime scene to determine the number of dead and their identities.

The state of Guanajuato, an agricultural and industrial center, has for years been the most violent in Mexico due to the turf war waged by the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel against local criminal groups, including the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, which apparently receives support from the Sinaloa Cartel.
