As it has been happening for more than a month in different branches, the service will end earlier than usual due to a union force measure.

This Monday, Line C will once again be affected by a trade union measure that will include lifting the turnstiles for one hour and a total stoppage of activities from 9:00 p.m. until the end of the day, within the framework of a conflict with the concessionary company that has been going on for more than a month.

As in previous cases, the decision was announced by the Subway and Premetro Workers Union Association (AGTSyP-Metrodelegados), through a statement in which they reiterated their claims and questioned the lack of response from the Emova firm. .

Specifically, the union requests a reduction in the work week to work five days and have two days off, as well as that the authorities of the City of Buenos Aires change the formations that have asbestos, but so far there is no agreement between the parties. .

Line C is one of the lines that has been most affected by the stoppages, both by the Metrodelegates, who have already warned about “the possibility of the service being stopped for an indefinite period of time”, and by the UTA, which last Monday kept it interrupted for six hours.

On this occasion, the AGTSyP specified that today there will be an opening of the turnstiles between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Constitución and Retiro stations, both headers, and after that there will be a total cessation of activities until the end of the day, so it will only circulate again on Tuesday morning.

The union remarked that “asbestos is a mineral recognized as carcinogenic and that, to date, there are 75 colleagues with various conditions caused by exposure to said mineral and unfortunately 3 colleagues have died from diseases caused by asbestos.”

“For workers, reducing the weekly workday would also mean reducing exposure to this carcinogen and gaining health,” said the text signed by the general secretaries, Roberto Pianelli, and deputy, Néstor Segovia.

For its part, Emova refuses to move forward with the reduction of working days, stating that it is “unfeasible”, since it would imply a reduction in weekly working hours (from 36 to 30), which “is incompatible with proper operation of the service and below reasonable levels of productivity.

In a statement of its own, the company detailed the key points of these strikes, which have been going on for more than a month, and regretted “that the force measures of the Subway and Premetro Workers Union Association repeatedly affect and harm part of the 900,000 users who travel daily on the 6 Lines and the Premetro”.

As in the previous strikes, which at first were carried out during the day and then began to be at night, the Metrodelegates asked “apologies to those people who are affected” by the decision and demanded that Emova “reflect on its attitude, which harms workers and users.

“We want to warn that, if we do not obtain answers to our requests, we will deepen the joint force measures, and in the case of line B we do not rule out the possibility of the service being stopped for an indefinite period, since legally none of the available trains In this line, they could circulate because they contain a highly dangerous material due to its incidence on people’s health that has been prohibited since 2001,” warned Claudio Dellecarbonara, executive secretary of the union.
