ROME (AP) — The Italian coastguard has recovered around 30 bodies after a migrant boat broke into rough waters off southern Italy, public radio RAI reported on Sunday.
The broadcaster quoted unnamed port authorities near the coastal town of Crotona in the Calabria region of Italy’s southern peninsula as saying the boat was carrying more than 100 migrants when it ran into trouble at the dawn Sunday.
Coastguard service, border police and fire brigade vessels participated in the rescue work.
The Coast Guard and other emergency services were not immediately available for further details.
