Even so, with all these projections, the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) is promoting an infrastructure project that will generate up to 27 times the number of jobs than Tesla profiles for Mexico. This claim was not provided by the government federal nor by the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), but for the United Nations (HIM).

Actually UN-Habitat carried out an analysis of the impact of the Mayan trendone of the megaprojects of AMLO and, after analyzing the region, the uses that the Train will have and the industries that it intends to promote, the International Organization has come to the conclusion that the work will generate 945,000 new jobs.

To achieve this result, the UN has defined 30 indicators in 268 municipalities in the states where Mayan trend (Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, Yucatan and Quintana Roo), “which allows us to know the situation before the construction of the train and to calculate its impact in the following years”. He also pointed out that the 46% of the jobs that will be generated will benefit people belonging to original peoples; In addition to this, the UN has estimated that the places through which the Train will pass will have considerable economic growth, which will generate an economic spillover that could lift many Mexicans out of poverty.

And all of this will result in one million 100 thousand people would have the possibility of getting out of poverty.

Moreover, according to the UN, “orderly planning avoids land consumption by 49% and protects the environment”. This means that planning allows reduce the amount of land people use to settle and expand their business. “In the southeast region, there are an average of 38 people per hectare. Increasing this density would leave more land free from human activities.

Finally, the positive impact that this would have on education in the most forgotten region of Mexico was considered, since The UN has pointed out that the Mayan train will increase, on average, two years of schooling in municipalities with a train station.

“The number of years attended by each inhabitant aged 15 or over in the localities crossed by the Maya Train will increase by an average of two years. The average level of schooling improves the conditions for training and access to the labor market, in a scenario where the growth of tourism and productive economic activity is expected”
