What seemed like a mistake by a community manager went viral on the eve of March 8, when the International Women’s Day. This is a series of posts published by the convenience store chain Tambo.
This Tuesday afternoon, he published in his social networks their usual promotions, only this time the prices were exorbitant. For example, two roast chickens, according to the notice, cost 900 soles. In another post, he promotes his classic chicken or meat empanadas for two for S/50. While an 8-ounce coffee appears priced at 17,000 soles.
The majority of users they thought it was a mistake. In the comments they started to take with humor the situation. “Does this coffee come with everything and close?”, “With everything and store, I imagine”, “A bicoca, with this coffee I wash my car tires, uncle”, wrote Internet users.
After a few hours that the messages went viral, the brand explained the real reasons for the posts and revealed that there was a campaign behind it that had been previously planned.
“The prices surprised you, nephew @? We are changing what you appreciate most about us: our prices. To make such alarming figures visible and that today we should care more. Promotions are not not real, but the problem is there and we need to change it. #CifrasQueImportan #8M”, they wrote in a post.
In this sense, they explain that the numbers have changed for a reason with the phrase “The promo is fake, the problem is real”. For example, the 17,000 they named coffee refer to cases of violence against women during the year 2022, according to information from the CDC Peru.
Meanwhile, they play with the price of grilled chicken. They indicate that 900,000 young women do not have quality education or jobs, according to the HERE. And with regard to the 50 empanadas, they indicate that this refers to the number of years it will take us to eliminate the wage gap in our country, according to the PEI.
In commemoration of March 8, the International Women’s Day, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (HERE) announced that by 2023, the female population of Peru will reach 16 million 999 thousand and will represent 50.4% of the total population of the country.
