A private bus fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Monday, leaving 16 people dead, including some schoolchildren.
Kullu Deputy Commissioner Ashutosh Garg said the accident happened near Jangla village around 8:30 am District officials and rescue teams arrived at the scene and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, he said.

The bus was heading to Sainj. According to some reports citing officials, at least 40 people, including school children, were on the bus when the accident occurred.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi has announced ex gratia compensation for relatives of those who have lost their lives and for those injured.
The Prime Minister has approved an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the relatives of those who lost their lives due to the tragic bus accident in Himachal Pradesh. The wounded would receive Rs. 50,000 each.
