Criticism of Pablo Moyano’s demands

The IDEA Colloquium questioned the claim of unions to demand “compensation when a company is sold” and generate conflicts that affect investment and the confidence necessary for recovery.

“Taking care of employment is the responsibility of governments, unions and employers, much more at this time of high criticality in the country and in the world. To be able to stop illegitimate requests from a union, such as compensation when a company is sold and does not affect jobs, too, “he said in a statement, in elliptical reference to the Truckers union’s claim.

“Building a country among all sectors implies dialogue. This type of conflict affects direct investment since it generates uncertainty that impacts the confidence of many other sectors of the economy ”, he added.

“Argentina needs everyone to get ahead. Undoubtedly, a very complicated year has passed in various aspects of citizen coexistence in health, economic and confinement issues. Not only did society suffer, but it also grew and learned a lot. Dialogue and institutionality are the bases to get out of the crisis and for a growing Argentina ”, the statement concluded.

It should be remembered that the Truckers Union demanded a bonus of $ 100,000 from the new owners of Garbarino for the sale of the company; He made this demand after the company refused to fire, indemnify and rehire its 180 affiliates, as the Moyano wanted. This Monday there were assemblies at the La Tablada distribution center.

The demand for a bonus was formalized before the company by the Deputy Secretary of Truckers, Pablo Moyano, after the new owners of Garbarino opposed what is known as “the Moyano law” and that originated the current conflict at Walmart: as the firm changed owners, the union demanded that the employees be fired, compensated and rehired.

In this sense, yesterday the United Supermarkets Association (ASU) expressed its concern about the conflict at Walmart.

“Given the facts of public knowledge -and in line with other business entities in the country- the United Supermarkets Association (ASU) wishes to make public its concern about the situation with the Truck Drivers Union. Lawsuits such as the aforementioned generate distortions and privileges of some workers over the rest and discourage entrepreneurs willing to make investments that promote the growth and development of our country.

“As a Chamber, we are convinced that compliance with the law is a central condition for the development of a business climate that facilitates and encourages growth and investment. The reasonableness of the demands and expectations of each of the actors is essential to pursue a collective benefit and sustained economic development ”.

“In this sense, we are concerned about the development of complaint practices that put at risk the supply and free movement of essential products to different parts of the country. In particular, when these practices hide behind the advantages of a union activity that is placed above the rest of the workers ”.

“We trust that a legal solution can be reached, within a framework of dialogue on the part of both institutions.”
