A few weeks ago it was revealed that a new version of Hellboy was in the works, that its title would be The crooked man and that this year the shooting would begin. Now the company in charge of this new production has announced that the actor who will take on the skin of this hero in red will be Jack Kesy, who can currently be seen in the original Prime Video film Without remorsewhich she shares with Michael B. Jordan.
Production company Millennium Media announced the news through a statement and explained that they chose Kesy to star in their next project because of the great histrionic abilities the 36-year-old American possesses. “Jack Kesy is a multifaceted actor, who has the ability to transform himself in each of his roles. His talent and size are perfect for embodying this young Hellboy. I was very impressed with him as we worked together on the outpostsaid Jonathan Younger, co-chairman of the company.
For the new version of this character, Mike Mignola, creator of the original comic on which the project is based, will be the screenwriter. Mignola will work alongside his collaborator on the Dark Horse comics, Chris Golden. Brian Taylor is attached to direct the film. With his role as Hellboy, Jack Kesy is following in the footsteps of Ron Perlman and David Harbour, who previously played the character. Production will start at the end of this year and will have several sites in Bulgaria.
The film will show a young Hellboy set in rural Appalachia in the 1950s, who must work with a rookie agent from the Agency for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD for its acronym in English). In the plot, the two will travel to a small community haunted by a group of witches who are under the orders of a local demon nicknamed “The Crooked Man”, who in turn has an ominous connection to the protagonist’s past.
The highly anticipated film will seek to take fans on a journey through one of the original comic book series’ most popular issues, promising to expand the main character’s world and hoping to explore new storylines from the Hellboy mythology. So far, it has not been announced which other actors will join the cast of this production.
Hellboy the original film released in 2004, was directed by Guillermo del Toro and starred Ron Perlman in the title role. It was a critical and commercial success, spawning a sequel, titled Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008). Despite the franchise’s popularity, the studio dropped plans for a third installment, leaving fans disappointed.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man it will be the first film on Millennium’s development slate with German film and television distributor Telepool, owned by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. Kesy can currently be seen starring in the film Dark. He recently played Sergeant Josh Kirk in the movie the outpostopposite Orlando Bloom, as well as the role of Thunder in the film Prime Video Original Without remorse with Michael B. Jordan.
