After the shock caused by the departure of María Isabel Urrutia from the Ministry of Sport, President Gustavo Petro has appointed the replacement of the former athlete and gold medalist at Sydney 2000. It is Astrid Bibiana Rodriguez Cortés, who has already taken office at the Casa de Nariño.

The new portfolio manager has a long and remarkable career that she will put into practice at the ministry, since she holds a degree in physical education, recreation and sports; specialist in advanced sports studies; Master’s degree in education and doctorate in social sciences.

During the inaugural speech, the President highlighted the challenges that Astrid Bibiana Rodríguez will have as Minister of Sports, in which the right to physical activity should be a priority, which is considered a determinant of prevention in the whole concept of health, is guaranteed from school, with childhood and youth.

Likewise, President Gustavo Petro highlighted the role played by the Ministry of Sports in implementing this vital point for the training of new athletes. “Our role as a state concerns the development, above all, of the general physical activity of the population and of physical education at school and at school. This is why the minister is a physical education professional”.

Astrid Bibiana Rodríguez Cortés has experience in managing educational projects and in building academic networks of international cooperation for research with allies in Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Chile, Canada, as well as in the direction and design of undergraduate university programs. and scientific research on subjects such as: education, physical education, public space, the city, recreation and leisure.

During her extensive career, the Minister has developed inter-institutional projects focused on building peace at the local level and has published in indexed journals, chapters and books in Colombia, Mexico, Italy, Brazil , among others.

In the same way, he worked as a teacher at the Secretariat of Education of Bogotá and at the Pureza de María school. He worked with the Regional Institute for Recreation and Sports, IDRD, and, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, formulated public policy on training in physical education and recreation.
