The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced Wednesday that the regional government has approved the automatic renewal of the title of large family until the youngest child turns 26 years old, as advanced by this newspaper in January. “Less bureaucracy and more facilities”, has summarized the head of the Executive to communicate the measure through their social networks.

The main objective of this regulatory change is to eliminate bureaucratic burdens for the 138,006 large families living in the region. Until now, in general, a family with at least three children has the status of large family for itself and for all its members until the last day of the 21 years of the eldest child. At that moment, if that young person continues studying and depending on his parents, he has to prove this fact to the Administration in order to keep his individual large family card for four more years, until his 26th birthday, if he continues his education. His siblings will have to do the same if they are still studying at the age of 21.

This means that large families will have to go through the same procedure as many times as the number of children they have in order to continue holding their large family card, because nowadays it is common for young people to continue their studies well into their twenties. With the change approved this Wednesday, the Community of Madrid will save parents from having to go through this recurring procedure because the validity of the large family title and the individual cards will be considered valid until the child reaches the age of 26.

If prior to that time any of the members of the family unit joins the labor market and legally can no longer be considered as a member of a large family, it will be he himself or his parents who will have to make it clear to the Administration, risking possible reprimands if they do not do so.
