Arshak Karhanian got up late and turned on his computer. He watched videos on Youtube and a series. At 12:46 p.m. he rang the doorbell. Leonard Herba a police officer with whom he had worked in the field of municipal police investigations. He decided to meet him at the door of the building.
Security cameras confirmed the conversation was tense but he entered the building alone. Again he surfed the internet and even searched for a game. An hour later, he went to an ATM and bought a shovel from an Easy branch.. Then the earth swallowed him up.
Four years after that day, the judicial inquiry has no firm leads. In recent months, a few test measurements have been carried out, but none have had favorable results.
The most visible was a raid on a field a few meters from the house of the policeman who last saw him. “It was all in smoke”, they complain close to the family. Armed with this picture of the situation, the lawyers for the family, now in the hands of the National Secretariat for Human Rights, requested that a cause of death investigation NN.
“A separate file has been opened in the file where the responses of the courts and prosecutors are accumulated. It is very methodical work. So far, nearly 60 cases with death have been recorded NN in the capital and province of Buenos Aires after February 24, 2019. In the future, the idea is to check DNA or fingerprints to rule out that it is Arshak,” he said. he explained to GlobeLiveMedia one of the family lawyers.
Initially, the judicial investigation was led by the public prosecutor Santiago Vismara but in 2021 it was taken over by the judge Alberto Banos. Despite the fact that Arshak was a member of the municipal police, the magistrate always refused to withdraw this force from the investigation.
“The police unit which faced multiple evidentiary procedures was done so at my express request because of the knowledge that I have of the professional and human qualities of its manager, the chief commissioner Walter Soria. I’m sure no one would have done it better than the one named. Plaintiffs must be satisfied that this is the best that can be available for this investigation,” the judge responded last October to a request from the complaint.
The suspicions of the family with regard to the Police are based on an indisputable fact: Arshak’s cell phone was inexplicably erased during testing.
A council of experts, made up of experts from different forces, sparked all the speculation. “Good computer forensic practices were not followed,” says this technical report on the police cell phone. And he adds: “Beyond the explanations, perhaps convincing, it would have been correct perform forensic removal of the mobile device with WhatsApp restored, storing the result on a medium for later consultation”.
There are also suspicious eavesdropping among members of the cybercriminality.
In 2021, Arshak’s mother, Vardush Datyvian, was received by President Alberto Fernández, then the national government decided to increase the reward for information about the case to 5 million pesos. Some time later, the Human Rights Secretariat came to represent the family.
“I want Justice to go faster. I want to know what happened to my son. I also want Larreta to talk to me, even though I know it’s not his fault. With each passing day, I have less hope,” said Arshak’s mother. GlobeLiveMedia through sound.
Two weeks ago, Vardush Datyvian received a call fromI Papa Francisco. “He told me he was going to pray for my son and for me. I felt very relaxed, it was like a light,” he said of that conversation.
Vardush Datyvian says with each passing day he has less hope.
Arshak attended military high school and then pursued a career in systems engineering at UTN. In March 2015, he started in the field of cybercrime. He was a junior technician but he had to participate in the expertise for the death of the prosecutor Alberto Nisman. In the city police ensures that their participation was irrelevant.
On February 24, 2016, just three years before his disappearance, Arshak jumped into the criminal investigation area. “He was happy there because he had a flexible schedule and it gave him the freedom to continue studying,” a friend said. But a month before his disappearance, he was brutally transferred to police station 7B.a decision that changed his fate.

The judicial inquiry was able to determine that, when the young man disappeared, he had an appointment at the door of his building, Avenida Directorio 963, with Leonel Herba. The testimony of this policeman has always left many doubts. He said he stopped by to say hello because he was going to “shop for spare parts on Warnes Avenue”, even though it was a Sunday. He also said the conversation was about the alleged acquisition of a car.
According to security camera footage, during the conversation, Herba played him a sound from his cell phone. In front of Justice, the policeman assured to have heard a conversation between the two which he himself had recorded with his telephone.
There are more suspicions. Herba deleted the content from his phone after the fact. In court, he said he did it because his girlfriend “was very jealous”.
However, a very incriminating sound was found on his cell phone. It is a discussion with the mother of his son, Jazmín Soto, which he recorded himself. “Justice hasn’t gotten me by the lining of my ass, I’m not about to lose my job, I haven’t screwed up anyone’s life like you did and I’m not screwing up anyone’s life. I even covered you with the office floor and left out a lot of things I knew so I wouldn’t keep getting dirty or muddy,” the woman explains in this audio, revealed by the newspaper. page 12.
Despite the outrageous content of the audio, where he admits to lying to favor Herba, the woman ended up declaring that she was unbalanced and everything came to nothing. Herba was also investigated by Internal Affairs and it was discovered that he had purchased cars and motorbikes which he could not account for with his salary. But he is still with the police.
Arshak’s last living image was in the Easy located in Rivadavia and Paysandú. He obviously bought a shovel and paid cash. He went out in the direction of Primera Junta. After taking a few steps, he turned and started walking towards Flores. He was never seen again.
