There National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB, for its acronym in English) of the United States this week opened an investigation into what happened on United Airlines flight 1722 which linked Hawaii to San Francisco on December 18, 2022, whose passengers testified in various media about what happened on council.
Rod Williams II He said he was sitting near the back of the United plane – a Boeing 777 – with his wife and children when the plane started to free fall suddenly.
The plane, which was en route to San Francisco from Hawaii, found itself in the middle of a big storm. It is assumed that the storm caused it to dip for a few eight or ten secondsAlthough it wasn’t until February 14 that the start of an investigation into what happened was announced, which won’t have results until “two to three weeks” later, according to the NTSB statement.
According to Williams, a mass panic broke out in the plane’s passenger cabin. The aircraft lost more than half of its altitude and came to a stop 775 feet (236 meters) from sea levelaccording FlightRadar24.
“It was like going to the top of a roller coaster”Williams told the CNNadding that he had noticed the plane descending at a “worrying speed” for several seconds.
The American from Ohio said that was when the passengers, who had initially tried to keep calm, began to panic.
“There were a lot of screams on the plane”, he detailed. “Everyone knew there was something out of the ordinary, or at least it wasn’t normal,” he added, in statements to the CNN.
Still, Williams did his best to stay calm so his kids and wife wouldn’t see him worrying and panicking further.
“You do your best to keep your cool: obviously there are children on the flight, nobody really knows what is going on. But at the same time, andAre you worried. You don’t know if that’s a problem,” he said. “It was something out of the ordinary”he assured.
Williams revealed that he and his wife, sitting either side of their two children, shared a silent gaze as the plane collapsed.
“You’re tense, you don’t really have a chance to speak or conjure up words, you just hang on to the seat and pray quietly“, he remembers what was going through his head at that time.
“We were praying for a miracle”he added.
Addressing the CNNWilliams said that passengers were not informed of the aircraft’s proximity to hitting the water.
He only found out last Sunday when his father showed him the coverage of the incident by Air flow.
“Now that I know, statistically, what happened and we were inside 5 or 5.2 seconds from falling into waterI count my blessings. I remember when my wife and I pray together before flights, there is a God who is there,” he said.
Williams took the opportunity to thank the drivers for their “incredible recovery efforts”.
“You read about these things, but when you experience them, it’s sobering. I am very grateful to be here today“, he concluded.
Neither United Airlines nor the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said if there were any injuries on Flight 1722.
