Christian Martinoli is one of the most popular storytellers in recent times. Together with Luis García and Jorge Campos, he has formed a great broadcast team that has earned them the recognition of the Mexican public. But not everything was easy for the chronicler, since in the beginning he had to fight many battles to place himself in the place he occupies today.
His dream was always to reach television and be a prominent commentator, but he had to leave his hometown, Toluca , State of Mexico, to seek better opportunities. After working for a time in local media, he made the leap to W Radio , where he worked with some well-known figures: Enrique Perro Bermúdez and Alfonso Doctor Morales.
Already in that station, Martinoli had to collide with the reality that prevailed in the media, because according to what he told in Engarzada Histories , Doctor Morales scolded him and told him that he would never become anyone in the industry. Far from being dropped by those words, the chronicler continued on his way and went in search of an opportunity at TV Azteca , a company that at that time had many figures in the field.
Thus, through Luis Manuel Jaramillo, TV Azteca camera director , he appeared at the Ajusco facilities to seek a job interview with José Ramón Fernández. Martinoli had met Jaramillo on the radio in Toluca. Although different programs, Christian knew that the Engineer worked at TV Azteca and wanted to ask him for an opportunity to get an appointment with the head of the section.
Martinoli went to José Ramón’s office and had to deal with the impact of meeting a television icon, according to what he told in “Engarzadas Stories . ” “ Emma , the historic secretary of José Ramón, welcomes me . José Ramón appears, turns to see me, and says: who are you? ”.
Martinoli’s responses were direct but did not convince Joserra . “He tells me: ahhh, he’s Jaramillo’s friend. I answer him: Jaramillo’s friend I am not. I know him on the radio in Toluca, but I’m not a friend, “recalled the chronicler about his first meeting with Fernández.
In the end, Martinoli got the appointment but had to endure a very tense moment. “They were giving me floor rights. I go with Valdés and José Ramón tells me : what do you do? I tell him that I narrate soccer. (He answers) Ahhh, you narrate. Valdés, the man narrates ”. Then came the climax of that meeting: “Ah, you are a narrator. You are a bitch . Let’s see Valdés, attend to the man who narrates. He gives me a zape and leaves ”, recalled Martinoli about who years later became his main teacher.
After that moment, Martinoli managed to enter the sports fountain of the company. However, his admission did not happen in the way he expected, as he was sent to a program with a lighter tone. What he was looking for was to do a serious job, more focused on coverage and the analysis of soccer games.
After that bad drink, he fully established himself in the field of sports chronicles. First at the table of ” The Protagonists” and then on his own in the narrations of World Cups and matches of the Mexican National Team together with Luis García, Jorge Campos and Luis Roberto Alves Zague .
