the nuclear plant tuna was again in the eye of the storm after volunteer firefighters and civil protection personnel from the province of Buenos Aires had to fight a grass fire in front of the property located in the district of Buenos Aires in Zarat. “The factory is protected,” was the phrase they uttered to ensure that, despite the fire still being active, the area was safe.
At the same time, the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, through the National Fire Management Service (SNMF), activated the missions necessary to combat the incident, the consequences of which could affect the Atucha Nuclear Complex.
Among the work carried out to put out the flames, the operation included the work of four firefighters, three police helicopters, a fire hydrant plane from the National Fire Management Service (SNMF) and Civil Protection personnel who were flying over the area. “They will be working around the clock to control the fire. The situation is under operational control, without affecting the Atucha plant and the neighboring population,” they added from this last area.

The precision of the professionals is due to the fact that the outbreak was still active even at night and that it affected the vegetation of the wetlands around the complex. “While its magnitude does not cause major concern, it is the effects of the smoke that call for the work of the Nation, through which it seeks to avoid nationwide consequences that affect power plants and therefore electricity supply,” the ministry said.
Given this scenario, the environment portfolio had offered its resources to the province, a situation which was also reiterated this evening in relation to this emphasis. As for the efforts made by the professionals, in the area they managed to operate with a hydrant plane of 3,000 liters capacity of the SNMF, as well as helicopters from Buenos Aires. At the same time, analyzes of the meteorological situation were carried out to study the rotation of the wind, in order to plan and coordinate the measures essential to the fight against the fire.
Meanwhile, local Civil Defense director Fabio Giovanettoni clarified how the work would take place the next day: “The fire hydrant plane will operate in the area near Atucha. Part of the air resources used in Lima are those used in the San Pedro fires. For now, at first, the giant Canadian Chinook helicopter should not be used for this operation.

Nearly a week ago, the plant suffered a fire that caused outages in Argentina’s electrical system. According to sources from the Ministry of Energy, as a result of what happened, various generating plants disappeared, including the Atucha 1 nuclear power plant and the Central Puerto thermal generator.
The outage caused 10,000 megawatts of the 25,000 being generated at the time to be taken out of service, one of the sources said.
As if that were not enough, at that time the event coincided with days of high temperatures, combined with a historic drought that led the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange to reduce its forecasts for the soybean and corn harvest to 33.5 million and 41 million tons, respectively. .
For its part, the high-voltage electricity transmission company Transener reported the decommissioning of three high-voltage lines that connect the transformer stations of the city of General Rodríguez in Buenos Aires with the Litoral region (north- is) following a fire in a field.
