The Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, met this Monday in Madrid with LaLiga clubs to discuss their technological projects and the adoption of innovations to improve aspects such as sports performance and data analysis, among others.

In her speech to clubs, the commissioner said that “the League and Spanish football teams have been pioneers in the adoption of high-tech innovations, from anti-piracy technology to visualization tools, which advance the European football”, and she was convinced that “these innovations will generate effects of contagion and change”.

“This is fully in line with our vision and the efforts undertaken within the framework of the new European innovation agenda,” he added, as reported by LaLiga.

The Commissioner underlined that “making the most of innovation in sport and through sport” is the top priority at European level and she considered that today’s debate “is a clear sign of the involvement of the Spanish football to achieve this ambition”.

He also confirmed that with the aim of “promoting the joint application of synergies and solutions to achieve real impact”, he will organize on May 30 a first innovation summit on sport and innovation in Brussels, a “initiative which will be essential to promote innovation as something essential in our European sporting model”.

LaLiga President Javier Tebas underlined that it is “the most digitized sporting institution in the world” and underlined that “the incorporation of talent into LaLiga from the most forward-thinking companies in the world, Microsoft and Globant” has been “key in the culture of digitization”.

“Digitalisation is a right of all clubs, not just the big ones, and we are working on it together,” he added.

The CEO of LaLiga’s technology subsidiary, LaLiga Tech, Alejandro Scannapieco, spoke of his goal to accelerate the project “and evolve it to become a global reference in the reinvention of sport and entertainment” in front of clubs like the Atlético de Madrid, Sevilla, Betis, Real. Sociedad and Cádiz presented the initiatives they are carrying out.
