Eleven tragedy: on the occasion of a new anniversary, the relatives of the victims will hold an act of tribute

11 years after the tragedy of eleven, relatives and friends of the victims will perform an act in order to “keep the memory alive” and to work so that a similar event does not happen again. In tribute to the dead of the tragedy that occurred in 2012 – at the head of the station shoot– they will sound a siren.

According to the father of Lucas Menghini Rey (20), the last dead found nearly 60 hours after the impact, this symbolic action will help prevent other tragedies: “We turn on the siren to wake up the memory. The judicial process did not mark an end, but was one more step on a long road which, in our view, will never end. We’ll always be here to highlight the things that are important so no one else has to go through what happened to us.”

The event will take place at 8:32 a.m. on platform 1 of the station Oncein the hearts memorial, a place where every year they come together to remember and commemorate what happened.

During the meeting, they will read an agreed document that will contain three main axes:

First of all, the relatives will request confirmation of the sentence from the former Minister of the Federal Plan, July of Vido. On this point, Pablo Menghini, one of the main referents, pointed out that “he already has the initial judgment of the Federal Oral Tribunal and the confirmation of the cassation”, and they hope that the Supreme Court of Justice “will confirm the sentence”.

Secondly, in the document, they will request that the request “for a compensation invoice to the direct relatives of the victims and the injured” be processed again. It was introduced but got stuck in the middle of parliamentary debates.

Regarding this issue, Menghini recalled: “There are many precedents of cases similar to ours that already have their law, such as ARA San Juan, Cromañón and AMIA, and we do not have to be the sad exception, especially when most of the sentences of the convicts are fulfilled and the responsibility of the State does not have to be demonstrated, because the courts have ruled in this sense”.

Finally, relatives and friends of the victims of the Once tragedy will warn of the various situations unfolding in the country’s passenger and freight transport lines based on the reports of railway workers and the annual report they do every year. END.

“It seems essential to us that we be the vehicle for the call for dialogue between workers and the organizations which depend on the State and which are in charge of railway safety. We always understood that it was part of our role,” Menghini said.

In 2013, the case went to oral judgment with 28 defendants for the crimes of “fraud against public administration” and “culpable derailment”, and on December 29, 2015, Federal Criminal Court No. 2 pronounced 21 convictions and 7 acquittals.

Ten years after this tragedy, those convicted in a first oral trial already benefit from probation or house arrest, while the Supreme Court of Justice has a complaint appeal pending from the defense of the former Minister of the Federal Plan, Julio De Vido. .

The Supreme Court upheld the sentences of 18 of the defendants, including Marcos Córdoba, the driver of the train that crashed on the station platform.

The only procedural situations that have remained pending are those of Jaime, whose case has again been referred to the Court of Cassation in search of a double agreement, and of the former Minister of the Federal Plan, since his file is not did not make it to the Supreme Court.
