The National Electoral Chamber has taken the first step for what will be the debates of the candidates for the presidency of the Nation. It is thanks to the formation of the Advisory Board that is made of 15 peoplerepresentatives of academic and civil society organizations who will collaborate with the Chamber in the organization of the debates.
Judicial sources informed GlobeLiveMedia that the Council and the judges of the Chamber, Alberto Dalla Via, Santiago Corcuera and Daniel Bejas, they had the first meeting which was for the presentation last week. The stage will now come where the organization of the debates will be discussed: the places where they will be made moderatorsareas thematicare modality and the questions.
The 2023 Debate Advisory Council has been incorporated into Bethlehem Amadeo, Carlos Arslanian, Atilio Boron, Marcelo Cavarozzi, Stela de Carlotto, Daniel Dessein, Jose “Pepe” Di Paola, Gala Diaz Langou, Delia Ferreira Rubio, Ricardo Gil Lavedra, Adriana Guerrero, Diana Mondino, Maria Lourdes Bridge, Alexander Tullio and Leandro Vergara.

The debates are two. One in the city of Buenos Aires and the second in the capital of a province, which will be decided by the Electoral Chamber. The debates are for the general elections of october not for internal parties and must be done 20 days before the elections. The provisional dates that the Chamber analyzes are the October 8 and the October 14.
In the event of a second round, the law also establishes a debate 10 days before this election. The tentative date would be November 12.
The Consultative Council advises the Electoral Chamber on various aspects of the organization of debates. Faced with differences, the last word belongs to the judges of the court. Candidates also participate in this discussion. The law establishes that “the candidates or the representatives of the participating political organizations will be summoned to a hearing aimed at agreeing on the rules for the conduct of the debates, the moderators thereof and the questions to be dealt with in each of them”.
The talks are must be transmitted by the Public Television and by the National Radio and all the chains and radios of the country can diffuse it simultaneously.
The first presidential debate took place during the 2021 election. Alberto Fernández, Mauricio Macri, Roberto Lavagna, Nicolás del Caño, José Luis Espert and Juan José Gómez Centurión. They took place in the city of Buenos Aires and in Santa Fe, in both cases in universities.
The organization of the elections is entrusted to the Electoral Chamber and to the Ministry of the Interior of the Nation. The court set 10 days ago the maximum amounts that political parties can use for their campaigns. PFor the general elections in October, the amount was fixed at 2,012,897,820 pesos for the category of president and half – since this is established by law – for the primaries in August, 1,006,448,910. If there is a poll, the amount for this campaign will be the same as for the primaries.

The amount was established on the basis of what was approved by the National Congress in this year’s finance law and what is established in the political party financing law.
The amount of money the parties will be able to spend is more than double than what had been established for the 2021 legislative elections. It is in line with inflation. It is established through what is called the electoral module. For the 2021 elections it was 20.50 pesos and for this year 56.82 pesos and is established according to the number of voters in each province and in the whole country according to the electoral list.
