The number of people killed rose to 41 after the 5.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the Balochistan province, located in southern Pakistan.

Local authorities reported more than 300 injured by the event.

Many of the victims died when roofs and walls of buildings and homes collapsed, said Suhail Anwar Hashmi, a senior official in the provincial government.

Among the dead were a woman and six children , authorities added.

The United States Geological Survey reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.7 and occurred around 3 a.m. (local time) at a depth of about 20 kilometers .

The earthquake also affected the cities of Quetta, Sibi, Pishin, Qila Saifullá, Chaman, Ziarat and Zhob, although the epicenter was located near Harnai at a depth of 15 kilometers, according to information from the country’s seismological center. , picks up Geo TV .

Local authorities reported that several buildings were destroyed. They fear that its inhabitants have been trapped in the rubble.

Likewise, more than fifty people have been injured and several of them have been transferred to hospitals in serious condition.

The Balochistan Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) distributed rescue teams for evacuations in the affected areas, reported the interior minister of the province, Ziaullá Lango, who warned that many people are trapped in the collapsed buildings.
