This Thursday, Costa Rica and Jamaica missed out on Group G date 3 of the 2023 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship and finished tied 2-2.
The goals of the match for the locals were scored by Roy Bustos (33′ 2T) and Sean Albriton (41′ 2T). While the away goals were scored by Alexavier Gooden (16′ 1T, from a free kick) and Adrian Reid (16′ 2T).
Orane Watson fired a superb shot after 6 minutes and the ball hit the post. It couldn’t be.
Jahmani Bell was the figure of the game. The Jamaican midfielder made 59 correct passes, removed 2 balls and shot on goal 2 times.
Sean Albriton was also important. The Costa Rica forward scored 1 goal, touched the opposite goal 4 times and made 12 correct passes.
Costa Rica striker Claudio Montero asked Jamaica defender Brandon Bent to dance and gave him a pipe in the 67th minute of the second leg.
The course of the match was very tight and intense, with more nerves than game. There were many reservations: Alexavier Gooden, Deylan Aguilar, Jordan Mangatal, Ronaldo Barrett, Randy Peña, Orane Watson and Dyllan John. Alexavier Gooden was sent off after receiving his second yellow card in the 72nd minute of the second half.
Costa Rica technical director Erick Rodríguez proposed a 5-4-1 strategy with Emmanuel Garita in goal; Bryan Morales, Kenan Myrie, Andry Naranjo, Jose Arias and Walter Ramirez on the defensive line; Víctor Maroto, Deylan Aguilar, Akheem Wilson and Mathias Castro in the middle; and Sean Albriton in attack.
For their part, those led by Merron Gordon stopped with a 5-3-2 scheme with Joshua Grant under the three sticks; Malachi Molina, Alexavier Gooden, Malik Robinson, Ahir Dixon and Brandon Bent in defense; Jordan Mangatal, Ja-Son Whyte and Jahmani Bell in midfield; and Ashton Gordon and Orane Watson in front.
Referee Víctor Rivas was chosen to carry out the actions of the match.
