There South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) defined which venues will be the final of the Libertadores Cup and the South American Cup, which since 2019 are played in a single match. They are both South American and global temples, as World Cup finals have been played in both and have a rich history. Its mystique will add value to each decisive encounter.

The president of the governing body in South America, Alexander Dominguez, reported it on his Twitter account and indicated that “by decision of the Conmebol Council”, the Libertadores final will be held in Rio de Janeiro at the Maracaná stadium and the South American final in Montevideo. “Two unique matches that inspire us for Believe Big in 2023!”.

In the case of the Libertadores, the Rio de Janeiro venue will once again host a final for the region’s main event, as happened with the 2020 edition, held in January 2021 following complications of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Saturday November 11, the mythical stadium will be the host.

While Montevideo Centenary after its remodeling hosted the Libertadores final in 2021 and will now host South America’s last game. The duel is scheduled for Saturday, October 28.

Both tournaments will begin in April and in the case of the Libertadores, the preliminary stages which will end on March 16 are still ongoing. In this case, there is an Argentine team, Huracán, who will define their passage against Sporting Cristal. The first leg will take place this Thursday at Parque Patricios and the return seven days later in Lima. They will be in total 47 clubs. Once all the teams have been confirmed, the draw will take place to bring the groups together and the event will take place on Monday, March 27 at the Conmebol headquarters in Asunción.

While South America will start this week with its qualifying instances and on Wednesday March 22 will take place the draw to reunite its zones which will start in the week of April 5 and end in the last week of June. In the weeks of July 12 and 19 will take place the play-offs of the round of 16, an instance that opens in this contest. There will be 56 participants since it should not be forgotten that for the second round the best thirds of the Libertadores groups will join.

In this way, the fans whose teams are part of these competitions already know where the most important matches of each tournament will be played and those who have to cross borders can prepare a trip full of the illusion that it is to be champion in the region.
