Toa Baja (Puerto Rico), 23 Feb. Puerto Rican urban artist Chris Wandell is releasing his debut album, ‘Mi Monopolio’ this Thursday, which he assured EFE that all his followers will love because of the ‘star crew’ collaborating on it.
Rauw Alejandro, De La Ghetto, Jowell, Rafa Pabón, Brray, Almighty, Lyanno and Kevvo are some of the colleagues that Wandell has included among the twelve songs that are part of his first production, which he presents after more than three years standing out as a composer for other artists.
“The wait is over,” said Christian De La Mata Santana, the first name of this 27-year-old urban artist, in an interview with EFE at the La Bóveda recording studio in Toa Baja, a municipality located on the northern coast. from Puerto. Rico.
“I wanted to do a collaborations album,” Wandell explained of the goal of the album, which also features Luar La L, D-Alexis and Paulino Rey.
FROM COMPOSER FOR OTHER ARTISTS TO SINGER
Wandell explained that there are songs on the album that were recorded over three years ago, during which time he composed songs for Lyanno and Farruko, but have been updated over time. to keep up with the current sounds of the urban genre.
The young man also collaborated as a composer on songs by Almighty such as “Personalidades” and “Amárrate Las Timber”.
“That’s what I was waiting for. I needed a new ‘show’, with new music and releasing a lot of great music, because I was still releasing singles and it’s not the same to give people the same variety,” he said.
Musically, Wandell, who grew up in Río Grande, a municipality on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico, said the album “Mi Monopolio” is “very complete”, since it contains songs with rhythms trap, reggaeton and “drill”.
However, he admitted that the album does “not necessarily” contain the twelve best songs he has written and recorded, but at least the most important to him and which he assured will appeal to his audience.
He also acknowledged that due to the long wait to release his first album, the next one will give his followers “a completely changed Chris Wandell”, as it will be based on the fusion of rhythms and will incorporate others, such as the salsa and bachata. .
CASI GRABA A THEME WITH BAD BUNNY
One great opportunity Wandell had early in his career that he couldn’t get was to record a song with Bad Bunny, currently the most streamed artist in the world on music platforms.
And it is that, according to Wandell told EFE, in 2016, when the two artists began their careers by uploading their singles to the SoundCloud music platform, Bad Bunny released the song “Diles” and offered to do a ” remix” (remix) with him and Almighty.
However, according to Wandell, Almighty took the time to record his part and music producer DJ Luian contacted Bad Bunny to do this “remix” with Ozuna, Arcángel, Farruko and Ñengo Flow.
Despite the meeting for “Diles” not happening, Bad Bunny wanted to remix “Polaroid”, the first song Wandell released on SoundCloud.
“Bad Bunny recorded, but at that time my team was not on the same page as me,” Wandell lamented about that moment and the possible opportunity of his life to record with the famous artist.
“I could have gone out with ‘Diles’ and the story could have been a different one. (But) God’s timing is perfect and when the time comes it will happen organically,” he said optimistically. . ECE
