The head of Chinese diplomacy, Wang Yisaid on Wednesday that China bets on the development of its relations with Russia Despite developments in the world situation, during a meeting in Moscow with the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.

Wang pointed out that regardless of “changes in the world situation”, Beijing maintains its position of “to make efforts with Russia for the development of positive tendencies in the relations between the great powers”.

“Our relationship is developing dynamically and, despite the heightened turbulence on the world stage, we show cohesion and the arrangement of defend our interests on the basis of international respect and the central role of the UN,” Lavrov said in turn.

“China and Russia still keep their strategic decision to move forward resolutely in the formation of a multipolar world. We have always been in favor of multipolarity and against unilateral actions and hegemonism,” Wang added.

He stressed that Sino-Russian relations “maintain a a strong dynamism in its development“, and that he hopes that they will arrive”to new agreements.

Wang is the director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committeea position that is above the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Neither Lavrov nor Wang mentioned the conflict in Ukrainealthough China launched a peace initiative and Wang himself assured three days ago in the German city of Munich that Kyiv and Moscow should start direct peace negotiations in order to reach a political agreement.

ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenkisaid on Tuesday that he had heard from his foreign minister, Dmytro Kulebathat China had a peace proposal, but admitted that it had not received any official documents.

Beijing has yet to officially submit its initiative, so the terms of it are unknown.

After his consultations with Lavrov, after which no press conference is scheduled, the head of Chinese diplomacy will meet the Russian president, Vladimir Poutine, as confirmed by the Kremlin. Wang also met in the Russian capital with the secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev.

Wang’s visit to the Russian capital takes place on the eve of the first anniversary of the start of the war campaign Russia in Ukraine, that is Friday.

Wang said Monday that China is willing to work with countries that want to reach a peace deal in Ukraine and reach a ceasefire as soon as possible.
