Beijing, Jan 23 – The Chinese National Health Commission today confirmed the detection of 56 new positives for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus this Saturday, 19 of them due to local contagion and the rest imported.
Community transmission cases were reported in Beijing (north, 9), Tianjin (north, 5), Guangzhou (south, 3), Henan (center, 1), and Yunnan (south, 1).
The remaining 37 infections, found among travelers from abroad, were detected in various regions of the country, mainly in Shanghai (13), one of the main gateways to China, which has kept its borders practically closed since March 2020.
Health authorities also reported today the detection of 34 asymptomatic cases, seven of them local, although Beijing does not count them as confirmed cases unless they show symptoms.
The National Health Commission also detailed that until last local midnight (16:00 GMT on Saturday) 197 patients were discharged after successfully overcoming covid.
The total number of active infected in mainland China amounts to 2,920, ten of them in serious condition.
According to the institution’s accounts, since the start of the pandemic, 105,603 people have been infected in the country and 4,636 have died.
To date, medical follow-up has been carried out on more than 1.5 million close contacts with those infected, of which 49,363 are still under observation.
