BOURNEMOUTH, England (AP) — Chelsea seemed to finally have found a rhythm under Graham Porter, while Liverpool’s see-saw season received another blow on Saturday in the Premier League.
Chelsea secured three consecutive wins in all competitions for the first time since October beating Leicester 3-1 on the road, in another sign that the beloved Chelsea squad are starting to come together.
But Liverpool followed up a historic 7-0 win over Manchester United by losing 1-0 to relegation-threatened Bournemouth. This after they were outclassed 9-0 in August.
With that, Liverpool let go of the momentum generated after a disappointing first half of the season. Jürgen Klopp’s side are six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham in the fight for the final Champions League ticket.
Tottenham beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 at home after Harry Kane scored a first-half brace.
Leeds slipped to 19th despite drawing 2-2 at home to Brighton.
The battle against relegation remains closed and only four points separate Leeds from Crystal Palace, who are 12th.
Manchester City will later visit the Palace in an attempt to put pressure on leaders Arsenal who face Fulham on Sunday.
CHELSEA EN AUGE, LIVERPOOL TROPEZA
After knocking out Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League to reach the quarter-finals, Chelsea won for the first time on the road in the league since October 16.
Kai Havertz scored one of the best goals of the day with a volley past the keeper for 2-1 before halftime.
Ben Chilwell put Chelsea ahead after 11 minutes and Patson Daka equalized after 39 minutes. Mateo Kovacic added Chelsea’s third after 78 minutes.
Chelsea remain 10th five points adrift of fifth-placed Liverpool after Klopp’s side again looked inconsistent.
Philip Billing scored the only goal 28 minutes into Dango Ouattara’s pass and Bournemouth managed to stop the attack. from Liverrpol who was incessant against United last week.
Mohamed Salah missed a penalty for Liverpool after 70 minutes after his shot went too far. This is the first time a penalty has been missed in the Premier League.
