Carla Humphrey, adviser to the National Electoral Institute (INE), announced this Friday afternoon that she will challenge before the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) the resolution of not being able to compete for the presidency of body autonomy.
In a media interview, Humphrey assured that this is not re-election as he is not at the end of his term, nor aspires to continue on the General Council, but that he wants to chair the institute after the departure of Lorenzo Córdova on April 3.
“I will go before the judicial authorities to fight what seems to me to violate my rights to be able to claim the presidency of the General Council of the INE”
And it is that a few hours before, the technical evaluation committee reported that the candidacy of the adviser is unconstitutional because her position at the institute lasts nine years without the possibility of re-election, which is a criterion that she does not share. not.
He argued that this will be the first time that the President’s replacement is elected with a practically new regulatory framework, which dates from 2014, which is why, he said, it is worth opening the discussion for a legal interpretation.
“I think that no one should be surprised in a state of law that the powers or a citizen or a public official follow the judicial channels to decide when it comes to a dispute, a dispute, interpretation of a standard”
He pointed out that the members of the committee have excluded more than 100 people, which is why it is likely that there will be more challenges, for which he hopes the Upper House can resolve in a timely manner so that the rights of those who want to be part of the committee are not violated.
Humphrey Jordan was elected for nine years and her term ends in 2029. So, of the 664 candidates who passed to the second stage, 531 met the constitutional and legal requirements, so they continue in the selection process.
Of the total, 164 identified as female, 358 as male, five as non-binary, one as a trans woman, while three did not specify
Committee members said that, in accordance with the guidelines of the appeal, they will send the list to the Political Coordination Council (Jucopo) of the Chamber of Deputies with the final list of those who have met the requirements of this second stage.
Among those who have taken the next step are: Bertha María Alcalde Luján, jurist of the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris); María del Carmen Carreón Castro and Yuri Gabriel Beltrán Miranda, former advisers to the Electoral Institute of Mexico (CDMX); Roberto Heycher Cardiel Soto, former executive director of training and civic education and from this Friday, in charge of the office of the executive secretariat of INE, after the immediate dismissal of Edmundo Jacobo Molina, due to the entry into force of “Plan B” of the electoral reform, and Jaime Miguel Castañeda Salas, coordinator of the advisers of the representation of Morena before the General Council of the INE.
From now on, the CTE must carry out an evaluation examination and interviews, with the objective of having four lists of five finalists each.
