According to an RCMP release, the Royal Osoyoos RCMP and the British Columbia Coroners Service are actively participating in efforts to identify the recovered body.
The main focus of their investigation is to establish whether there is any correlation between the remains discovered and the disappearance of Carlos Aranda on July 7, 2023.
Carlos Tomás Aranda Burgoin, a young man from Oaxaca, Mexico, had traveled to Canada in recent months in search of job opportunities, reports El Financiero.
His last known location was Brar Fruit Stand & Orchant on July 7. Following his disappearance, his family and authorities in Mexico and Canada initiated search efforts.
The Mexican Consulate in Vancouver played an active role in coordinating with local authorities, including the Mounties, to help locate Carlos Aranda.
The family’s request for intensified efforts to find Carlos Aranda led them to visit the National Palace in Mexico City, urging President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to work with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to expedite the search.
On August 3, the Mexican embassy in Canada initiated the issuance of an Interpol yellow notice, seeking information on Carlos Aranda’s whereabouts. The Interpol alert highlighted the urgency of the situation and encouraged people with information to come forward.
Now, nearly 20 days after the Interpol alert and more than a month and a half since Carlos Aranda’s disappearance, the recovery of a body near the location where he was last seen raises questions about the fate of the missing Mexican national.
