At two o’clock in the afternoon on average this Monday, March 6, parallel to the departure of the pupils from the markham college in the neighborhood of Santiago de Surcogunshots were reported near the educational facility.

A few hours later, the National Police of Peru (PNP) reports that this shooting occurred as part of an operation to arrest two racketeers who stole a mobile phone from a nurse on the street, dragged her to the ground and fled on a linear motorcycle registered 5086. -KB.

“Today, around 1:45 p.m., a delivery man informs us that there has been a seizure of a mobile phone in El Polo Avenue. Immediately the alerts were sent to the factory and directly in Santorín Street you can see the motorcycle who was leaving for La República Avenue, where there was an exchange of gunfire”, added the Deputy Director of Citizen Security Operations of the Municipality of Santiago de SurcoIbero Ernesto Rodriguez Chavarry.

As a result of this shooting, one of the criminals was injured in the left leg. One has been identified as Deivi Alexander Astuhuaman Melgar (25), injured who was taken by members of the Surco Rescue Squad to the Casimiro Ulloa Hospital in an ambulance; and the other is Eduardo Ibarra Amorin (32). Both have records for theft and other crimes.

At the time of the arrest, three high-end cell phones, a copy of a firearm, 10 packages of base cocaine paste and 7 bags of marijuana were found among their personal effects.

In a statement, as reported by El Comercio, the educational institution said that “all members of the community are safe thanks to the prompt action of school staff”.

“The parents who were at the door were brought in and the doors were closed until the situation calmed down. We have reopened the school after receiving permission from the police,” they added.

Moments after the incident, security personnel at the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, next to the markham college, warned that some people came to support the criminals after they were killed. However, police later reported that they were members of the Peruvian National Police’s Decentralized Base Unit (Dipincri).

Finally, the Deputy Director of Citizen Security Operations of the Municipality of Santiago de Surco, Ibero Ernesto Rodríguez Chávarry, reminded citizens of the importance of denouncing these attacks.

“For the judicial and police aspects to follow the measures that must be taken so that criminals do not set foot on the streets again,” he stressed.
