Bulgaria set a new record of hospitalized patients on Friday, 8,082, with 278 new admissions in one day, as well as 670 seriously ill patients, with a rise of 61 in the past 24 hours, reported the Ministry of Health.
The new positives detected in the country of seven million inhabitants amount to 4,008, while the number of deaths stands at 102, which brings the total fatalities since the start of the pandemic to 11,817.
Bulgaria is the fourth country in the European Union (EU) with the highest death rate in relation to the population in the last 14 days, with 157 deaths per million inhabitants.
Bulgaria will paralyze for ten days, starting next Monday, all its social activity and a good part of the economic one due to the unprecedented increase in the number of infected, hospitalized and deceased by covid-19.
At the same time, this country, one of the countries that more slowly vaccinates its population in Europe, this morning resumed immunization with the AstraZeneca vaccine, after the endorsement that this drug received yesterday from the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
So far, just over 4% of the population has received at least one dose, 356,052 people, less than half the EU average.
