In Brake on the Lower Weser (Wesermarsch district), environmental activists from the organization Greenpeace protested against a pipeline construction project in Australia on Thursday. They painted the slogan “No New Gas” on the side of a freighter delivering pipes for the construction of the pipeline. Gas will flow through the pipeline, which is promoted on the Australian west coast.

“The development of new gas fields brings no benefit in the current energy supply,” said Greenpeace marine expert Manfred Santen according to the announcement. Laying and distribution of the gas pipeline destroyed valuable marine areas with seagrass beds and coral reefs. Sea turtle breeding areas and migratory routes of humpback whales are also affected by the project. New mega gas projects are contributing to the global climate crisis.
