The National Health Council (Conasa), an organization that groups together part of Bolivian doctors, has announced a 15-day extension of the strike against the Government’s Health Emergency Law, as well as blockades on the country’s main roads for the next Monday.

Conasa has called for demonstrations in the early morning that end in blockades of the “busiest avenues”, which will not be revealed to avoid preventive actions by the Police.

The president of the Santa Cruz Medical College, Wilfredo Anzoátegui, has accused the Government of turning a “deaf ear” and avoiding dialogue, according to ‘El Deber’.

The protests have been going on for a month and a half and were motivated by the lack of consultation of the Government of Luis Arce when drafting the law, according to the health sector.

Bolivia closed its borders with Brazil on Thursday in an attempt to contain the spread of the Brazilian variant in the country that has led to the collapse of the hospital system in the border department of Beni. In the last 24 hours, the country has registered 916 coronavirus infections and 23 deaths.
